Three Short Tips for Saving Time with Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing can be time-consuming. Sometimes it’s a complete and utter time-sucking machine. As a business that provides social media management, we spend a lot of time on social media. So we know how easy it is to get distracted!

This blog post is all about how you can do social media for your business in a constructive way, with tactics to save time and avoid the distraction of that auto-playing video just down the feed.

1. Lists are your best friend.

social media marketing listsCreate a list of things you want to achieve while on social media for your business, it could look like this:

1. Comment on 5 posts.
2. Like 5 different posts.
3. Respond to comments on our page.

Tick off the items when you are done and close that social media window immediately. Tasks achieved with a sense of control over your world.

2. Time yourself.

Once you’ve made a list of things you want to achieve on social media for your business (see point 1) – the next step is giving yourself a time limit. Then set a timer with an alarm and start working through your list.

This will do three things, firstly it will ensure that after the alarm goes off you are reminded to get off social media and get on with something else. Secondly, you’ll learn how long it takes you to achieve these tasks (which is great for planning your time). Finally, you will become a concentration ninja – doing only the social media marketing tasks on your list rather than getting distracted by the pretty feed.

In the beginning, the alarm will go off and you’ll realise that you have been distracted by a video or a meme. Don’t worry, just set the alarm again and try again. You’re only human that cat gif was hilarious.

3. Work in batches.

Batch creating social media marketing postsJust like batch cooking – this process works by letting you concentrate on one thing at a time for ultimate efficiency.

Block out time in your calendar for specific social media marketing tasks like; writing tweets, creating images, scheduling posts, hashtag research etc. When that time slot arrives, bash out as much as you can.

You’ll find that by sticking to one thing you’ll get a hell of a lot more done. It also brings a huge sense of relief when you finish that block – “wow I just wrote a month’s worth of Facebook posts!”

These three tips in combination are your shield against the dreaded zombie-scrolling that we are all prone to. (Where did the last 30 minutes go? I only came on here to respond to one comment!)
